I’ve thought long and hard about this programme. It’s why I’ve designed something to your working week that will give you the skills to face the here and now. Five hour long sessions delivered online to fit into the most demanding of weeks.

Each session will give you what you need to know to help you deliver cutting edge communications. You’ll get slides and resources and access to a video playback of the session.
You’ll also get access to a group Facebook group where you can ask questions and get distance mentoring and support.
Someone once asked me if I can run training that covered everything they needed to know to be a good comms person and be up to speed. This is it.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
Five hour-long sessions delivered online on different days as islands of respite in your busy calendar.
Session 1: THE BASICS: THE MEDIA LANDSCAPE, COMMS PLANNING AND EVALUATION
We’ll go through up-to-date research to show you how different demographics are using the media so you can reach the right audience.
Good comms planning starts with the basics. We’ll look at AMEC and GCS principles. We’ll also go through an easy-to-use template to help you know how to plan a campaign and make sure you’re talking to the right people at the right time.
Session 2: CREATING CONTENT: HOW TO USE THE ALGORITHM
You’ll be given a tour of the main platforms and go through the algorithm so you can create better content.
We’ll look at Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
You’ll understand what content works so you can shape better content.
Session 3: UNDERSTAND NEW PLATFORMS
WhatsApp is the third largest platform in the UK while TikTok has more than 12 UK million users. NextDoor has four million users and growing.
What are those platforms and how can you connect with them as an organisation?
We’ll show you how.
Session 4: USING FACEBOOK GROUPS TO REACH YOUR AUDIENCE
More than 1.8 billion Facebook users are members of groups.
I’ll go through three years of research to show why this is important. I’ll show you how to carry out an audit and how to connect with Facebook group admins, and be where your audience is.
Session 5: WHEN TO ENGAGE AND HOW TO DEAL WITH ONLINE COMMENT, CRITICISM AND ABUSE
When to engage and when to take action needs to be in the armoury of every comms person especially if they’re dealing with social media comments.
How to rota, engage, hide, mute and the routes open to you in law to escalate are dealt with here so you can better advise.

Who the trainer is: Dan Slee is a digital communications consultant with more than 20 years experience working for and with the media. He worked in local government communications before going freelance in 2013. He has helped train more than 3,000 people from more than 300 organisations over the past seven years.
