How to communicate online with low or no budget in a subscription landscape
- 82 per cent of the UK population use Facebook.
- Posting links to Facebook pages has been a cornerstone of digital communications strategies for 15 years.
- But Meta’s Meta One subscriptions for Facebook and Instagram now sees links and reach restricted for non-subscribers.
- But to rub salt in the wound, Meta has banned Government pages from taking out a Meta One subscription.
- This practical workshop aims to help coimmunicators in and around the public sector re-think your digital communications approach with alternative strategies.

Background
Facebook has been a key communications channel for more than 15 years.
But the launch of Meta One subscriptions has upended long-established strategies. Links are now limited and reach restricted on Facebook.
Limits have also been made to corporate Instagram profiles.
So what strategies can now be best used?
In a two-part workshop we’ll look at what Meta One means and how you can adjust your tactics on Facebook and Instagram.
That includes:
- Original data that sets out the most effective Facebook and Instagram content.
Communicating with Meta One
- Using the basic Meta One subscription (or not) if you are not listed as a Government page.
Communicating without Meta One
- What the restrictions are.
- Creating content that works.
- Telling the story on the platform through video, text and carousels.
- Telling the story off the platform through Facebook groups.
- Making the most of the limited remaining links functionality.
- How to use chat-to-message and message-to-message functionality over Facebook and Messenger.
- Third-party tools.
- Flowcharts to help you triage content requests.
We’ll also look at beyond Facebook
- Email marketing.
- Nextdoor.
- WhatsApp Channels.
- Print.
The sessions will be run over two two hour sessions.
